How To Apply For NDIS Funding?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme is a program started by the Australian government in 2013. This scheme provides care and nursing facilities to people with disabilities through registered NDIS providers like Complete Connect. This article helps you understand the entire procedure of applying for NDIS funding.

Are You Eligible?

Before applying for the funding, the first thing you need to know is whether you are eligible to be a participant in this scheme. The NDIS provides funding to people with an array of disabilities, including mental, physical and intellectual. The general eligibility criteria have the following requirements:

  1. The participant has to be an Australian citizen; permanent residency or a protected special category visa (PSCV).
  2. You must be under the age of 65.
  3. You must be facing difficulties during your everyday tasks because of your disability, and the condition has to fall under NDIS’ category of needing necessary support.
  4. If the participant is under seven years old, he must have been facing development delay.

Verbal Application

The first step of the application process is to make a verbal application for the funding. Call Complete Connect to start your application. They will ask the questions on the application form. We will ask you to identify yourself or the person who will be acting on your behalf.

Access Request Form

The next step is to fill out the access request form. You can ask your NDIS provider to send you the form, or you can also get it from your local area coordinator or NDIA office. Fill out Section 1 and put your signature and the date on the form. In the case someone else is signing the form on your behalf, you will need to provide evidence of your consent. You can either call and give verbal authority, or you can write a consent letter and attach it with your access request form.

Provide Evidence

Providing your NDIS provider with evidence is the next step in your application. We will need to verify your age, citizenship and all the information regarding your disability. You can attach the evidence with your access request form and send it through email. You will also be notified about the progress of your application via email.

If you need help with something in your application form, you can call us for guidance or visit your local area coordinator to seek help. Once your application process is done, we will go through your access request form and see if you are eligible for the funding. We will contact you when we confirm your eligibility status. If we need further information regarding your consent or disability, we will also let you know so you can submit it.

For Children Under Seven

To be eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), the participant must be between the ages of 7-65. Still, suppose your child is under seven years old and has a developmental delay. That case falls under the Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI), which allows you to supplement your child’s development and health with the help of therapy, counselling and special education.

For ECEI, children don’t need a formal diagnosis to be eligible for NDIS. If you notice something out of the ordinary with your child, you can contact your NDIS provider and make a request to access ECEI services.

What does NDIS Promise?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) supports your needs to help you reach your goals and allows you to participate in the community. To determine what necessary and reasonable support you might need, NDIS checks up on all the informal support you are getting from your family and friends and also what formal support you are getting from your health and education providers, and comes up with the best plan for your needs.
